Miracles!

“…to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers…”

1 Corinthians 12:9-10a

It can feel like it has almost been skipped over in this list. When was the last time you heard someone pull out the Spiritual gift of Miracles, and preach on it? If you are someone who just said “last week” in answer to that question, your church is not normal, and I ask you to email me your pastors name so I can shake their hand.

a miracle is innately something out of the ordinary, something that can't be explained logically

Miracles is a subject that today often only gets spoken about in Apologetic circles. Rarely do I hear it mentioned in prayer or services. Our prayer is often reserved for healing, which is a direct request for a specific miracle, I guess, if we are even people who actually pray for things to change. When fighting for our faith academically (apologetics), however, miracles are often spoken of. Scientifically, there is no room for miracles as science works on the understanding that this world is logical. For example, here comes my A in Science at GCSE, if you let go of an apple 5 times, you will notice that the apple drops to the floor every time. This is proof of gravity, and I will now record my data and write a theory that every time I let go of an apple it will drop. Science! We watch what happens and we write it down.

Now, a miracle is innately something out of the ordinary, something that can't be explained logically. Therefore, it comes up in this debate a lot. William Lane Craig is a sweet apologist... YouTube him. He said, “Only if atheism were proved to be true could one rationally deny the possibility of miracles.” Taking the view that if God created all, every logical action that we experience on Earth, then He can also break into that and change it at His desire. Therefore If you can prove atheism, that there is no God, then you can tell me there are no miracles, but if you fight it from the point of view of science, then we will get nowhere as it is by definition the will of a God who is bigger than (and who created) our science and logic.

it is a gift so pray for it and try it out

In this list it is written as a gift, so pray for it and try it out! I loved that TV series Heroes. Everyone had an odd gift where they could do something really cool. Well, we are not too far off as Christians. Some of you may think it would be a miracle if God gave you the gift of miracles. Precisely, all these gifts are miracles, as they deny the logic of what we know as natural. One of them is miracles and the church is to be equipped with this power and gift.

“The mind which asks for a non-miraculous Christianity is a mind in process of relapsing into mere religion.”

C.S. Lewis
